Tippecanoe’s JH Boys Obliterate the Field at the Sidney Invitational

Tippecanoe’s junior high boys cross country team continued their undefeated season by winning the Sidney Invitational on Saturday, September 20th. Not only did they win, but they flat out dominated the competition. They placed their top five runners in the top six and their top seven in the top eleven and were only three points off a perfect score.

Ricky Andrews won the race with a time of 11:16, beating teammate Sam Wharton who finished 2nd overall with a time of 11:21. The previous weekend Sam won the race with Ricky not too far behind. The friendly rivalry between the two pushes them even harder to try to finish first for the team. The nearest competitor to Wharton was a full 30 seconds behind. Grant Koch finished 4th overall, just cracking the 12 minute barrier with a time of 11:59. Nick Noone finished only two seconds behind Grant, finishing in 5th place with a time 12:01. Tyler Prentice rounded out the team scoring by placing 6th overall with a time of 12:07. Seventh graders Michael Landwehr and Jay Schairaum finished 10th and 11th respectively with times of 12:12 and 12:15. A total of 99 runners competed in the race.

The goal for all the other Miami County teams will be to prevent Tippecanoe from scoring a perfect score of 15 next week at the Miami County Championships, a feat rarely ever accomplished in a championship meet. The success of the team cannot be credited to their individual talents alone. The inspiration derived from first year coach Peggy Osborn, along with the team’s great work ethic and competitive drive are the real reasons for their achievements this season. The junior high team will definitely carry on the rich tradition of running excellence onto the high school level for years to come.
